ENQUIRE OF THE LORD!

TEXT:  1 SAMUEL 30:8  And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

Enquire means to ask; seek counsel; find out.

This is what God wants us to do – to ask, seek, to find out.  

• Matthew 7:7  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Why?  Because He said:

• 1 Chronicles 16:11  Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
• Exodus 18:15  The people come to me (Moses) to enquire of God.
• Proverbs 8:17  I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
• Jeremiah 29:13  Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

The Philistines were always at enmity against Israel.  They are strangers, immigrant foreigners, forces foreign to Spirit, opposed to all true spiritual discipline.  And the “religious system” is at enmity against God’s Anointing and His Anointed!  

David was always “enquiring” of God.  As we read in 1 Samuel 30:8, he enquired about going up against the Philistines.  And every time he “enquired”, God gave him a clear and definite answer.  The religious system, like the “Philistines, was and is always at enmity against Israel (God’s people).  Those bound by the “religious system” are strangers, immigrant foreigners, forces foreign to that which is Spirit, and opposes all true spiritual discipline.  I again remind you, the religious system is at enmity against God’s Anointing and His Anointed.

SAME GOD THAT SAID “SEEK HIM THEN” IS THE SAME GOD THAT IS SAYING “SEEK HIM NOW”!!

If God wants us to “enquire” of Him, then there are some things He wants to show and tell us.  We’re already on the winning team, so why not “seek counsel, ask of Him, and find out” about things to come – things we need to be aware of.  People, we need to be aware – so why not “seek” our King, Jesus the Christ?

Listen, there has never been a recording – never been a witness – nor has it ever been written that God has ever lost in anything!

Remember we’re in a “system”, and we need a word from God.  We need instructions from God to stay abreast of all that’s happening.  Let Trump do what he does – because he’s  supposed to do what he’s doing to get him to where God wants him to be so that when God has His way, Trump will know that GOD IS GOD!!  Therefore we need to do what we do and that is to “enquire of our God” for direction, instructions, heeding, warnings, traps, and everything the devil may try to use against us.  

• 2 Chronicles 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Daniel, despite the decree made by Nebuchadnezzar against him, prayed three times a day, turning his face toward Jerusalem.  (Daniel 6)

• Revelation 12:4  And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth.

One third of the fallen angels (messengers) are trying to oppress the third part of the Godhead (the Holy Ghost in the church), but we must “enquire of the Lord” what we must do as a people.

• 1 Thessalonians 5:17  Pray without ceasing!

In 1 Kings 22, when enquiry was made by Ahab, the king of Israel, of his prophets whether or not to go to battle at Ramoth-Gilead, he didn’t accept only what they had said so he enquired of God’s prophet, Micaiah.  After his word, he and Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went up to battle.  God’s plan was for the king of Israel, Ahab, to be killed, and he was.  

God wants us to “enquire” of Him because He wants us to trust HIM; depend on HIM for all that we need!  We must turn to HIM for help!  Let us not be like Abraham in Genesis 12:5-10 – soon after Abraham arrived in Canaan, a famine rose in the land, and instead of consulting; instead of inquiring of God to meet his needs, he turned for help to Egypt – “a symbol of the world” (the system).

In Joshua 9:1-27, you can read about the trickery of the Gibeonites against Israel:

• Joshua 9:14  And the men (the Israelites) took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.  

And Israel was beguiled by the Gibeonites, but when they eventually found out that they had been beguiled, they didn’t kill them because they had covenanted with them.  

• Joshua 9:26  And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not.  Verse 27  And Joshua made them that day to be hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD.  

This is a perfect example of why we need to “enquire of the Lord” in our decision making.

• 1 Chronicles 10:13-14  (Saul enquired not of the Lord, and he was put to death.)  So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it:  and enquired not of the LORD:  therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

In Joshua 9, you see how the Gibeonites lied to Joshua and Israel.  Israel made a league with them and did not consult or enquire of God.  They had been forbidden to make leagues with the inhabitants of Canaan.

• Exodus 23:32  Thou shalt make no covenant with them nor with their gods.

Saul died for his trespass which he committed against God.  He didn’t keep God’s word.  Because he asked counsel of a medium (familiar spirit), (making inquiry of it instead of inquiring of God), it cost him his life.

Psalm 27:4  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
