Matthew 1:21 "And
she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins".
Matthew 16:13-16: "When
Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,
saying, 'Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?' And they said, Some say that thou art John
the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, 'But whom say ye that I
am?' And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God". (King James Version)
We see here
in the book of Matthew that Jesus made a strong declaration to his disciple, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?”
They answered naming some of the
prophets. Then He said unto them again,
“But whom say ye that I am?” You see Jesus wanted to know if they knew Him. Then Peter answered saying, “Thou art the
Christ.” Right there Jesus blessed Peter
because He knew that flesh and blood didn’t reveal this unto Peter. The great truth came from God the Father - that
spiritual idea of man; The Christ of God; The Son of God which is the Divine
Mind (God) - had revealed this to Peter.
So as we
find Jesus referring to Himself as the “Son of God”, we see Peter also had
reached a place in understanding where he realized his relation to Being (God).
In John 7:29, Jesus explains this
realization when He says “I know Him:
for I am from him and he hath sent me".
